M.O.D.O.K. and Man-Ape have banded together to try to capture the Vibranium Mound while Wakanda's security forces are dealing with a new Incursion. We're going to have to handle this one without Black Panther's help. He and Fury will be dealing with the Incursion.

Nick Fury:

I'll be taking the lead on the Incursion. Agent Hill and Agent Coulson, you're in charge for now.

Tony Stark:

What about me?

Nick Fury:

You're still our highly paid consultant.

Tony Stark:

As long as that's clear.

Nick Fury:

T'Challa has prototyped a new device designed to interrupt Incursions. Now it's going to get its first field trial.

Tony Stark:

Need a hand? I can consult. Remember how I invented the way to interrupt the subatomic resonance that makes Incursions work? That was pretty nice work. I bet T'Challa's using it, isn't he?

Nick Fury:

We've got this. Your attention should stay on M.O.D.O.K. and Man-Ape.

Storm:

Because T'Challa has internal matters requiring his attention, I will be your liaison with Wakandan personnel. Fury, I will escort you to the Incursion site. We must speak.

Tony Stark:

I thought she and him were, um...?

Agent Coulson:

Me too. But it's not really our business.

Maria Hill:

Storm will be closely involved in this mission, Agent. Stay in close touch with her.

Black Panther and Fury are trying to test T'Challa's device at the Incursion site, but they're also under attack from White Gorillas. Send a hero to help cover them while they work. But don't ask any questions.

Shanna, a group of terrorists is heading south through the jungle trying to get out of Wakanda.

Colonel Danvers, since you're nearby, we'd like you to control an emerging situation near the Incursion portal. A hostile armed group has traversed the portal and is causing significant damage to local infrastructure, as well as terrorizing the population.

Tony Stark:

Plus they might have nasty germs. Come on, Carol, zap 'em for us.

Ms. Marvel:

Does anyone else want in on the zapping? No? Okay, then.

Ms. Marvel:

They are. Mostly they looked like that other Earth's version of A.I.M.

Constrictor is taking petty office theft to a whole new level by trying to pilfer some S.H.I.E.L.D.'s surplus vibranium supply. Problem is, he's just been caught in the act by Hercules.

Pretty sure they prohibit boozing on the job, too, but since when has that stopped you? Also, that settlement won't last forever. I have to supplement my income.

We sent out a shipment of vibranium headed for the outskirts of the city, hoping to decoy M.O.D.O.K. out into the open.

Agent Coulson:

Looks like Man-Ape is already tracking it. He'll make his move sooner or later, but it's possible if we wait M.O.D.O.K. might join the party, too.

Tony Stark:

Storm, what's your sense? Should we make the move while we've got Man-Ape lined up, or see if we can get a daily double?

Storm:

I stand ready. Agent, if you think your team is capable of handling both M.O.D.O.K. and Man-Ape, that's fine with me. But it might be simpler to remove M'Baku first and then hunt M.O.D.O.K. separately.

Agent Coulson:

Like Storm said, it's your call.

Agent Hill, did you just make a joke? You really let your hair down when Nick's not around.

Sometimes the simplest plans work best. M.O.D.O.K. just attacked the dummy shipment and our field team. Agent, now's the time.

The shipment's escort is under heavy attack, Agent. We should not delay our response.

I would think by now you would have learned that your simulations tend to be optimistic.

There is no optimism in stipulating M.O.D.O.K.'s superiority. That is fact.

Storm:

Well, it's a theory. Sounds like you want to test it.

You fight me when I could save you all! Only M.O.D.O.K. has a way to halt Incursions, with one hundred percent certainty!

M.O.D.O.K.:

Storm:

And it just so happens you must steal vibranium to do it. Convenient.

For me, yes. For your convenience, I spare no part of my mind. I will have the vibranium, and A.I.M. will halt the Incursions! Then you will grovel before A.I.M., and before M.O.D.O.K.!

M.O.D.O.K.:

And now S.H.I.E.L.D. will see the superiority of A.I.M. technology!

M.O.D.O.K. is out of his chair and unconscious. Some of his soldiers have fled into the jungle.

Tony Stark:

We'll track them and see if they lead us to his base. Whatever gizmo he's designed, it'll be there.

Storm:

I will escort the vibranium back to its holding facility.

Tony Stark:

I'm going to want to inspect his lab if we find it. M.O.D.O.K.'s a nut, but he might have made some kind of breakthrough.

Tony Stark:

We've been through M.O.D.O.K.'s lab and he was in fact building an energy-disruption field generator. Could be it'll affect Incursions.

Maria Hill:

And it needs vibranium?

Tony Stark:

For the containment shell, to keep the energy field from dissipating. Or exploding. I'll dismantle it and bring it in to study. Or should we--

Maria Hill:

The Incursion is collapsing! Did someone--oh no. Director Fury?

Agent Coulson:

Boss? Come in, Boss.

Maria Hill:

He's not answering. Do we see him on any--

Black Panther:

Someone collapsed the Incursion...with Fury on the other side.

Maria Hill:

He went through it? Why?

Black Panther:

The only way to activate our device was from the other Earth. Fury could not leave it because the people of that Earth knew what was coming to them. He remained behind to defend it...and save us all.

Maria Hill:

Did he--do you have a way to get him back? Does that Earth still exist?

Black Panther:

I am working on it.

Maria Hill:

That sounds like a no.

Black Panther:

That is all the answer I can provide. We will be working to get him back, just as I'm sure you will.

Tony Stark:

We sure as hell will. But we're going to have to put that on hold. There's a fire to put out in New York. Literally.

 

Mission 2

Tony Stark:

Everyone seems to have their own idea about how to fight Incursions. That's what brought M.O.D.O.K. to Wakanda, and that's why the Fixer seems to have wanted to build himself a customized Sentinel army.

Agent Coulson:

When was he doing that? S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't clear any project like that.

Maria Hill:

Well, you know the Fixer. He has his own way of doing things, and it doesn't usually involve sticking to regulations.

Tony Stark:

We've all got our side projects. Problem is, once he had control systems designed, someone else took them over. That's when we first heard of the whole thing.

Maria Hill:

We suspect Ultron. He's active in this area, and a battalion of Sentinels would be too hard for him to pass up if he thought he could use them himself. That's your mission briefing. If you're curious about what's happening in Wakanda...we don't know.

Agent Coulson:

There's no way to know what happened to Fury after he went through the Incursion, and no way to know if the other Earth still exists.

Maria Hill:

We have to proceed as if Director Fury is lost.

Agent Coulson:

That means keeping our eyes on the mission here. Hunt the Worthy, deal with other threats as they arise.

We need to depower a building full of Ultron drones. It's got magnetic shielding in its main transformer...but that won't stop a trick arrow.

Agent Coulson:

That transformer is powering a lab where Ultron is copying himself as fast as he can move the gantries. It's magnetically shielded and heavily armored.

Maria Hill:

We can't use a missile and a bullet will deflect off the casing. If we're going to take out that transformer, we need something nonmagnetic that can deliver a disruptive charge.

Tony Stark:

Kate Bishop, please pick up the courtesy phone.

Kate Bishop:

What is it?

Tony Stark:

We've got a specially designed arrow we need you to shoot at something.

You didn't tell me I'd have to do it while Ultrons were attacking.

Agent Coulson:

If you can fracture the light going through those fiber-optic cables, our day will get a lot easier.

Karolina Dean:

I've never tried to do that before, but we'll see if I can make it work.

Tony Stark:

Look out for rampaging Sentinels.

We're fighting Sentinels just like you are, Goldilocks. Butt out.

It's a rare day when Ultron turns out to have been a red herring. We just cut through the security in these Sentinels' command codes, and guess who they respond to? Bastion. He's finally gotten his army together. We were fighting him the whole time and he let us think it was Ultron.

Agent Coulson:

Now he's decided it's time to make his move, and he's unleashed a fresh wave of Sentinels to announce it.

Quake:

I'll take him out.

Agent Coulson:

You're going to need some help, Quake. Agent, get there fast.

Whatever you've been told, you're no mutant. This isn't your fight.

Bastion:

I don't think I need you to tell me what's worth fighting for.

He doesn't eat. Maybe he can just send me a box of chocolates or something.

Fixer:

People are always talking about me like I'm not here.

Tony Stark:

Well, you weren't a minute ago. Got those Sentinels back under control?

Fixer:

Yes. What's left of them.

Tony Stark:

We were keeping this mission under our hats as long as we could, because we're about to expand our field of operations. Welcome to Madripoor. Beautiful city. Also a wretched hive of scum and villainy, et cetera.

Agent Coulson:

The Hand and the Maggia seem to have struck some kind of deal to establish joint operations here, and our intel suggests that Count Nefaria is the driving force.

Maria Hill:

Nefaria? He's stayed out of sight for a long time. What's bringing him back now?

Agent Coulson:

Sunfire has been on-site for weeks now getting all nuclear on Nefaria's operation. What's your sense, Shiro?

Sunfire:

The easy explanation is always greed. But I think there's more to it here. I think I will need to beat the answer out of Nefaria.

Tony Stark:

Good plan.

Maria Hill:

Find out why Nefaria's putting the Hand and Maggia together, and what's their sudden interest in Madripoor.

Agent Coulson:

If Sunfire's right, a whole new front might be about to open up in this war.

According to S.H.I.E.L.D. intel, K'un Lun exists in its own extradimensional space, and only manifests here when the rift opens. Hard to know whether it would survive an Incursion. Nefaria seems to be betting it will.

Tony Stark:

I bet he's also planning to scavenge the tech from the alien ship that created the rift in the first place. I know I would.

Maria Hill:

If Count Nefaria is planning to gain a foothold in K'un Lun, we need to hunt him there.

Agent Coulson:

I think the Worthy are more pressing. Also Incursions. If K'un Lun isn't separated from the rest of this universe, Nefaria's plan won't matter. And if we can stop the Incursions, and stop the Worthy, we can deal with Nefaria afterward.

Maria Hill:

Disagree. Whatever he does in Madripoor or K'un Lun will only make the Serpent stronger. We have to stay on him.

Agent Coulson:

Fine. I'll reach out to Iron Fist and let him take the first steps. Meanwhile, we're headed back to --

We're extending our deployment to Madripoor. Count Nefaria was operating in the center of the city, but we're going to have boots on the ground in Buccaneer Bay this time. Because somewhere in Buccaneer Bay is the Mandarin.

Tony Stark:

Whatever Nefaria is planning, the Mandarin is the bigger problem. I think that goes without saying even though I just said it.

Maria Hill:

The Hand and the Circle of 8 are both in Madripoor. Either they're drawn by the Mandarin's promises, or he's controlling them.

Agent Coulson:

I don't think even the Mandarin could shake the Circle of 8 from their dedication to the Serpent. But the Hand is another story. Moon Knight has more news.

Moon Knight:

I've been hunting the Living Pharaoh, guided by Khonshu. He led me here, and Abdol has just transformed into the Living Monolith again. He has tapped some kind of energy well. Apparently he thinks he's got a way to channel and control the latent energy of Incursions.

Agent Coulson:

If it's true, that's something we ought to know about. You're our man here, Moon Knight. Bring us the Mandarin and the Living Monolith.

I vote for later. If the Mandarin is focused on a power play, I'd rather it be in K'un L'un than here.

Agent Coulson:

Unless he's correct that something in the nature of K'un L'un will protect it from Incursions?

Tony Stark:

I don't buy it. We'd have to ask Strange or Danny to be sure, but I think K'un L'un is a pocket dimension inside ours. If our Earth goes up in an Incursion, K'un L'un goes with it. I think he's found a way to tap the energies of K'un Lun. Maybe that's how he's been able to stop Incursions.

Interesting point the Mandarin made about the Circle of 8. They aren't leaving their standard trail of bodies.

Maria Hill:

The Serpent must be out of hammers. Have we counted eight hammerfalls?

Agent Coulson:

Yes. Now that we've figured out how to detect them, I went back through satellite records and there have been eight matching impacts.

Tony Stark:

But only six Worthy so far. The Serpent's show isn't quite ready to begin.

Saving Earth? Thanos? Pardon me if I'm skeptical. Doesn't he spend most of his time plotting to kill us all?

I'm not going to speculate about his reasons. All I know is what I know. Some of the galactic powers are beginning to consider radical solutions to the Incursion problem. If it is centered on Earth, goes the logic, it will go away if Earth goes away.

Agent Coulson:

Clarity, please. There are plans to destroy the Earth as a way of avoiding Incursions?

Thane:

Yes. Is that clear enough?

Tony Stark:

I feel like I've heard this story before. Is your father making one of those plans?

Thane:

Possibly. All I know is he is trying to manipulate Incursions, and he has been in contact with the Mandarin. I should also mention that the Black Order is hunting me down again.

Tony Stark:

You couldn't have gone to Mars instead? Or maybe Alpha Centauri? I really don't have time for your daddy issues while I'm trying to find the Mandarin and spread his molecules around the solar system.

Thane:

Would you rather not have known?

Agent Coulson:

He has a point. We will proceed with the recovery operations around Avengers Tower and also get ready to counter the Black Order.

Okay, then. All we have to do is survive the Worthy and make sure nobody destroys our planet before we figure out how to stop Incursions.

We've been seeing isolated instances of Terrigenesis in the general population around the world. As we investigated, we traced one source to Maximus the Mad, who apparently still has some of the Terrigen Paragenesis serum he used to create his army for Thanos.

Agent Coulson:

Only now he's brokered a deal to sell his army to Mr. Sinister...in return for what, we're not sure. Could be Sinister wants a piece of whatever the Mandarin and Thanos are planning.

Maria Hill:

Deathlok has been keeping an eye on Sinister for us. Take it away.

Deathlok:

Sinister is convinced that some of the Incursion Earths will possess technology that will make his work easier. He wants manpower to invade them and capture that tech. As far as what's in it for Maximus, who knows? Inhuman psychology isn't a specialty of mine.

Maria Hill:

Black Bolt and Medusa are hunting Maximus. Deathlok, we'd like you to focus on the pursuit of Mr. Sinister. Bear in mind the strong possibility that looking for one will lead you to the other.

The Inhuman royal family has tracked down the whereabouts of Maximus the Mad to alab filled with twisted genetic experiments. Can Black Bolt and Medusa convince Maximus that his path to Paragenesis is ill conceived at this Inhuman family reunion?

So, you still pursue your Paragenesis project. And now you sell your knowledge to Mister Sinister. Is nothing beneath you?

I wouldn't put it like that. I explore pathways that others do not dare.

Maximus the Mad:

Medusa:

Blackagar begs you to cease your madness.

If it was so easy to cease madness, it would not be madness, would it? And brother, I hear your question. Here is your answer. The time is coming when there are no Earths left. If there is a way out, not everyone will be able to use it. I intend to make sure that I can. The Paragenesis serum will create the army that ushers me through...to what? That we shall see.

Maximus the Mad:

Now what does Blackagar say, sister-in-law?

Maximus the Mad:

Don't. I might be able to learn something about Sinister's operation from Toad.

Wasn't he hanging on with the Hellfire Club when the Brotherhood war broke out?

Agent Coulson:

I might have guessed. I'm surprised Sinister hasn't gone to work on you yet, Toad. He'd probably love to take you apart and see how you tick.

Sinister has a great plan. The only plan that will work!

You don't have Mystique or Magneto to fawn over anymore, do you? Good you've found someone even more despicable than they used to be.

I am holding Sugar Man and waiting to see if Sinister will be baited out into the open. My guess is he won't, but I'll hang here for a few minutes to see.

And some of his Paragenesis Test Subjects. Make that a lot of them.

Maria Hill:

Mr. Sinister must be nearby. Have you had any communication with Medusa?

Deathlok:

No. They might not have seen Maximus yet and they're nowhere in the area.

Agent Coulson:

He's all yours, then.

Well, now, how's this for a chance encounter? I was looking for your business partner. Your brother is looking for you.

Maximus the Mad:

Deathlok:

The thing is, in about ten minutes, you're going to wish he'd found you before I did.

Brilliantly bantered! But once you have seen my Paragenesis army in action, you might also wish that.

Maximus the Mad:

With an army of Paragenes, we will wait until the final Incursion looms...then leave this Earth to its fate and conquer the last one remaining.

Maximus the Mad:

Deathlok:

You know you're not the only one with that plan, right?

Agent Coulson:

Status, please, Deathlok.

Deathlok:

Maximus hid out behind his Paragenesis forces. They did a good job of stopping a lot of ordnance meant for him.

Deathlok:

In other words, he got away.

Agent Coulson:

Stay on him, please. But be very careful of Mr. Sinister. We expect he'll try to protect his investment in these Paragenesis Test Subjects.

Maximus is on the run. We are having trouble tracking him.

Deathlok:

You go on and track him. I'm going to take my shot at Sinister.

I have experimented with cyborgs. It's a dead end, really. The real future of human improvement lies in the genome, not the circuit.

You're buying foot soldiers from Maximus so you can take over an Incursion Earth? I don't see the long-term investment there.

Only if there is no end to Incursions. But that, as you will see, is not the case. Greater minds than yours are on the verge of something quite extraordinary.

Mr. Sinister:

Deathlok:

I'll eat crow then. Right now, I'm lumping you in with all the other nuts who have doomsday plans.

You cannot stop progress. Incursions open up new worlds, and before they are destroyed I can make use of them.

Mr. Sinister:

Deathlok:

That's not what most of us would call progress.

Your cyborg enhancements are intriguing...but I can see there are still some improvements to make.

Mr. Fantastic:

We're analyzing the Test Subjects to gather more information about the Paragenesis serum. More information should be available soon.

Tony Stark:

Did we break up the deal between Maximus and Sinister?

Maria Hill:

It's hard to know. They could have gotten much of the exchange accomplished before we intervened. And if they had broader plans together, we won't know that without one of them to interrogate.

Agent Coulson:

What do Sugar Man and Toad know?

Maria Hill:

We're still questioning them, but it's not likely we'll get much useful intel. Sinister's too smart to trust either of them with critical information.

Agent Coulson:

Black Bolt and Medusa are still after Maximus. I'm going to ask them to break off the search if it takes them too far from Earth. We're going to need all the help we can get here, as the Worthy gather.

Maria Hill:

The other question is what the endgame of Incursions is. I've got a feeling we won't have much longer to wait before we find out. Thanos won't wait forever before making his move.

Tony Stark:

As long as finding out doesn't mean watching the universe get destroyed, I'm looking forward to it.
