S.H.I.E.L.D. PERSONNEL BRIEF: Mister Fantastic

Classification: Independent Operator

Nationality: American

Powers: Accidental cosmic ray exposure gave Richards the ability to stretch like rubber and contort himself into shapes limited only by his own vast imagination and intelligence.

Known History:

The son of brilliant astrophysicist Nathaniel Richards Reed took after his father in terms of scientific aptitude and general intellect. He blazed through his schoolwork, including a stint at State University, where he roomed with athletic star Ben Grimm and began a long-standing rivalry with fellow genius student Victor Von Doom. Richards had the time, the intelligence, and eventually the money to pursue his dream of space exploration. But there was some government funding involved as well, and when government officials told Richards they were going to cut him off, he made a rare rash decision. He and his handpicked crew (Ben Grimm, his girlfriend Susan Storm and her young brother John) decided to take Richards’ ship for a spin. Everything appeared fine until they passed through the Van Allen belt and caught an extra-large dose of cosmic radiation.

The radiation affected each member of the crew differently, and when they returned to Earth they rechristened themselves the adventurers and explorers known as The Fantastic Four.

Richards has since married Susan Storm and had a couple of kids. He’s a solid family man and a reliable leader - not only of his own group, the Fantastic Four, but of any group of people who can use guidance and strategy in a crisis situation.

Observations: “Though you’d think any guy who named himself ‘Mr. Fantastic’ would have an insufferable ego, Reed Richards isn’t just the smartest guy in pretty much any room he walks into -- he’s also one of the humblest. If only more of these superhero types were as easy to work with.” -- Maria Hill

Observation 2: "The first problem is definitional. An isotope, of course, is a variation on an existing element. The substance S.H.I.E.L.D has codenamed Iso-8 bears no resembelence to any element previously observed by science. On a subatonic level, the arrangement of its particles is unique. I'll spare you the detailes, but there is one important thing to note.

"The physical properties of Iso-8--from the spin of its quarks to the peculiar ramifying fractal pattern in its crystal arrangements--strongly suggest that it was created under conditions that do not, to my knowledge, exist in this space-time. From this I extrapolate two possibilities: Either it was created by a science sufficiently advanced to tinker with the building blocks of the atom, or it is a product of another dimensional space.

"As yet, we do not have enough evidence to rule either possibility in or out." --Reed Richards

Hello, I'm Reed Richards. You might know me better as Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. But I'm also a scientist, and I'm here to tell tou a little bit about the Pulse--what it was, what it means, and what we can do about it.
